Dr. Quiana Obeng selected as Assistant Principal of Kubasaki High School

OKINAWA — August 5, 2024 — Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Pacific South District Superintendent Dr. Melissa Hayes is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Quiana Obeng, affectionately known as “Dr. Q”, as the assistant principal of Kubasaki High School, effective 25 August 2024, located on Camp Foster in Okinawa, Japan.

Dr. Hayes shared, “Dr. Obeng has an extensive background in secondary education that will serve our district and Kubasaki well as we continue excellence in teaching and learning. She is energic, passionate, and has a heart to see everyone included and successful throughout the educational process. This is evident from her past experiences and most recent role as a coach with the DoDEA Americas Cetner for Instructional Leadership (CIL).”

Dr. Obeng has worked in the field of education for over 20 years. She has been a secondary math teacher in the New York City Public Schools and an Instructional Coach at Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary in the Atlanta Public School District. She was a founding teacher of the Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy, a premier single-gender middle/high school also in the Atlanta Public School District, where she served in numerous leadership roles and was awarded Teacher of the Year for 2010-2011.

In 2015, Dr. Obeng entered DoDEA and served as the Secondary Math Instructional Systems Specialist (ISS) in the Pacific East District. In this role, she supported the implementation of College and Career Readiness Standards in Math. In 2018, she was named assistant principal at Nile C. Kinnick High School in Yokosuka, Japan. Dr. Obeng also served as acting principal at Ikego Elementary School and The Sullivans Elementary Schools. In 2023, she had the opportunity to serve as a Professional Practice Improvement Specialist (PPIS) with the Americas Center for Instructional Leadership (CIL).

Dr. Obeng received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Fordham University. She also earned a Master’s in Math Education from Herbert Lehman College and later earned her Educational Specialist degree and doctoral degree from Argosy University.

Dr. Obeng is dedicated to “Excellence in Education for Every Student, Every Day, and Everywhere”. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will advance the mission and vision of DoDEA as a member of the Kubasaki High School administrative team.
